Sometimes life just shits on you. Sometimes that’s just poor stupid luck. And sometimes that’s a direct result of one’s actions.

For all intents and purposes, Inside Llewyn Davis is about a guy named Llewyn Davis. The plot is a character study of one man and beats along at its own slow burn pace while presenting the idea that a human being can be both responsible and innocent for the crap pile that has become their life.

Before there was Poe Dameron, there was Llewyn Davis, Poe’s almost equally sexy, musically talented counterpart. And look just a little and you might find a pre-Kylo Ren Adam Driver in there as well.

Oscar Isaac gives such a fantastic performance as Llewyn that while this isn’t really a film you can “spoil” per se, saying too much about Isaac’s performance feels like a bit of a spoiler itself. The story follows a failed musician grappling with the the events of his life, his relationships, and an industry that doesn’t have much interest in his kind of self expression.

Thematically heavy and as slow a burn as you can get, Inside Llewyn Davis is perfect for those days where a depressing, intelligent, and thematically deep film hits the spot.

Since this is a review and not an analysis, I can’t say much more without robbing any potential viewers of this character-driven, nearly plot-less, film experience.

WHERE’S HIS SCROTUM, LLEWYN?
